Limerence

Image description: a red outline of an anatomical heart with blue and purple veins set against a black background.

A look within.

Between intoxication and awakening.

Can’t be without you.

But hate you.

Thought it was love.

But it was biochemistry —

something the body had long known.

The word Limerence remained —

a flash,

beautiful,

but not real.

Perhaps only

the ideal figure

of the inner self.

A kick,

when I saw you.

So often I wasn’t there,

detached

from what once was.

A flash

like a drug high,

promising everything

yet in the end

giving nothing.

Thought it was fate.

But it was not.

And now.

Now.
