Modern Vampires by Jasmyne Tzitziras

Growing up, one of my favorite movies was Interview with the Vampire and as a teenager, I discovered the gothic world of The Vampire Chronicles from Anne Rice which quickly became an obsession. Now you can imagine how excited I was for the TV show, almost as much as Anne Rice herself was when she announced it was in the making, and I have to say I was nothing but impressed. The show took us down a path Anne Rice herself said she wished she was brave enough to do, and although it differs from the original content I believe it shows a fresh new and modern perspective on the original Interview with the Vampire. Although I do admit a few things had me question it, there were far more good things than bad which kept me going through the whole series, and I can’t wait for the next one.

Magical Remake by Jordyn Presley

With the original Hocus Pocus being a staple Halloween movie, I had to watch Hocus Pocus 2. I went in with an open mind and tried not to think of the original, which I highly recommend, and found a tale of friendship and love conquering all. I learned that candy apples are a big deal and  saw a side of the Sanderson sisters that I feel made them all the more beloved. It was not as spooky as the original but I’m not complaining because I am not a spooky fan at the best of times. A new take on a classic, it’ll probably be divisive, but I do think it is worth a watch.

Try Something New by Nyalat Pel Kun

Confession time: I am not a horror girlie. I like romantic rom-coms and anything with Jack Black as the lead (do not yuck my yum). So for this month’s top pick, I have something a little untraditional. I recommend YouTuber extraordinaire, Stephanie Soo. Soo has a series on her channel where she retells thrillers and her storytelling abilities are outstanding. If you are looking for a pastime distraction, head over to Ms Soo’s channel – you won’t regret it.
